Mampi Biography

Mampi real name (Mirriam Makupe) is a Zambian Pop and RnB singer whose music is kwaito and reggae-inspired. Sadly she lost her parents and her brother as well. However, her passion and determination are what have seen her through some difficult moments in her life.

She signed her first record deal in 2003 and has never looked back since. Mampi is known for producing great hits such as “Sunshya” from her album “Maloza”. Her provocative shows have also earned her the nickname ‘Queen Diva’, but because Mampi always knew that she was destined to be a performer and a great musician, she kept pressing on.

One may wonder how has she managed to navigate in an industry that few female artists make it in. Many have always said she’s the Beyonce of Zambia.

Mampi was born on 4 August 1986. She is 36 years old as of 2022.

For her primary education, Mampi attended Muyooma Basic School, and she went to Libala High School for her secondary education. Mampi also went to the Springfields Coaching Centre in Lusaka.
Mampi has quite maintained a private love life hence we have no confirmation but rather hearsay in that regard. In early 2018, Mampi was reported to be in a relationship with a 22-year-old student from the University of Zambia and a few years back it was rumoured she was dating former award-winning Zambia National Football team player and 2012 Afcon winner Reinford Kalaba.

Mampi does not have any children and is not married. The songstress mentioned that she was getting tired of being pressurized to get married.

“I have been getting a lot of people asking why I’m not married yet and I felt like I needed to address the elephant in the room. I am certain I am not the only single woman facing such kind of pressure to get married. When are you getting married is becoming a popular question not only to me but many other women in our society. I would have chosen to ignore this and focused on my interests but I decided to take this opportunity to speak for me and many other women who are subjected to such pressure,” Mampi wrote.

Mampi the self-crowned queen diva, whose career was catapulted by a combination of fast music studios and fast circulation is one of the most celebrated female singers in Zambia.

Mampi made her big appearance in the music scene in 2003 when she signed her first record deal. She then released her debut album ‘Maloza’ and from that album, she performed the hit single ‘Sunshya’ on national television for the first time.

Her second album ‘Chimo ni Chimo‘ was released in 2007and her first performance across borders was in 2012 in Windhoek, Namibia.

One of her hit tracks, ‘Walilowelela’ was performed by a Portuguese singer, Luyana, in 2015. A video was also produced for the track, but Mampi did not appear in it. However, the duo later worked on another video together of Mampi‘s track, ‘Why’.

Mampi released the single ‘Nyula Yako’  in 2017 which was a dancehall-inspired hit that was produced by Magician alongside James Sakala.

In 2018 she released an album with the same title.

That same year she performed alongside one of the world’s renowned DJs, Black Coffee at the Vic Falls carnival.

Her prowess as a musician has seen her perform at some great festivals such as when she was on the stage at the Stanbic Music Festival in 2019.

Mampi was a contestant on the seventh season of Big Brother Africa. However, Mampi was only in the house for twenty-one days, and Big Brother Africa added to her status as one of the Zambian female celebrities to have stayed in the house.
